A very upright form of liriodendron tulipifera with a columnar growth habit. Unusual, green lyre-shaped leaves turn butter yellow in autumn. Fragrant, tulip like flowers appear late spring which are a greenish yellow with an orange band at base. Adaptable to clay soil, though best suited to well-drained conditions to avoid excessive moisture. At last a Lilly Pilly that is highly psyllid resistant! A superior cultivar of Syzygium Australe, more commonly known as a Lilly Pilly. This unique variety is new to the NZ market and is solely available through Black Bridge Nurseries and Boulevard and Boutique. Selected propagation has improved this variety of Lilly Pilly making it resistant to the very problematic psyllid insect and the damage it causes. Its also faster growing, has a stronger, straighter central leader and an improved root system. We’ve also found it to be good in shady areas as well. Excellent for screening, hedging and shaping. From the Three Kings Islands, Tecomanthe speciosa is a vigorous climber with large handsome glossy leaves. The large tubular cream flowers are borne in bunches during the winter months. Tui visit flowers for nectar. Frost sensitive but can be grown successfully in colder districts under the shelter of trees. Ideal grown up a terrace pole, strong trellis, up into trees. Takes some years to flower.
