Very similar in form to Pseudopanax crassifolium. The juvenile form of this Pseudopanax has a single thin stem which grows long slender pale grey brown leaves that have distinctive saw like teeth along the edges. After 10-15 years the tree reaches maturity at which stage the leaf form becomes shorter, wider and dark green in colour. The tree's form changes to a more typical tree shape with branches spreading to build a round head reaching apx 6 metres height (In ideal conditions) with a trunk of up to 25 cm in diameter. The mature trunk has distinctive vertical grooves which sometimes twist slightly. |
