The species is cultivated in all the countries of the Mediterranean, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, North and South America and South Africa. The olive's fruit is grown primarily for oil, eating, or both. The trees is also suitable tree for standardising. Yellow fruits flushed red soon follow which can be eaten but birds also enjoy.
